My Yearly Update

Well I haven't written so long in this thing, why not give an obligatory yearly update on what I'm up to?

First, I interviewed for a semi-permanent position in the west coast, Los Angeles, California to be exact.  And I finally got an offer to move out there!  Michelle and I are really stoked because well living out in Kansas ain't the greatest.  I mean it was a good experience and there's some really good BBQ, but I can't wait to return to the west coast where I feel I belong. (or Hawaii)  I've met some really cool people while I was living out here in KC, and I'll miss them, but I'll see them online and stuffs.  Peeps like, Cole, Justin, Eli, Kevin, Miguel, Chris C.  I'm sure I'll run into them sometime or another later on.

But living in LA is going to be so cool.  If we can get passed the drive bys, traffic, pollution, and high costs of living, I'm pretty sure we're going to have a great time.  And Michelle has tons of relatives there, I don't know if that's a good thing or bad thing, but they'll always be there if we need them.

We're planning on living somewhere decent, hopefully like in Westwood near UCLA or something like that, but I hear the cost of living is insane.  I wonder what the interest rates are like for apartment/home buying, because if I'm paying like $25,000 a year to rent, I'd rather be putting that towards something I'm going to own rather than just throwing it away.

I think the plan is to have me move somewhere in late June or early July, but I still have to hear about the timing from my new manager and some executives who are in charge of that kinda stuffs. Michelle was getting all fussy cuz it took a while to set this position up and stuff and she didn't think it was gonna happen. hahaha, patience grasshopper. If it is God's Will it will happen and it did :)

But the only bad thing is that we're going to have to give Sugar to her Mom and Dad to take care of, because I don't think we can babysit him at home like we do in Kansas.  Michelle wants to find a nice place to work with coi ponds hahaha and a nice big glass window.  But her parents seem excited about taking in Sugar so that's really cool of them.  He's a real dog not like that K-8 Buddy, who bites their faces, he bit Michelle AND robbie on the face, wtf? Damn devil dog.

In other news, my sister is graduating from UH Med School and heading off to her Residency in Queen's Medical Center on Oahu, where she will be specializing in OB/GYN.  Mad props to her, there is no way I have the dedication to do that kinda stuff. And she's graduating with honors too.  Just goes to show you, with hard work, you can accomplish anything you want, you just have to want it bad enough.  Her life will be like the real Grey's Anatomy, kissing ass to residents and attendings, trying to move up the ranks and impress them, without making the next tier up jealous... etc.  Fun stuffs.  Glad I don't have to do it.  Hey and when she sets up her office I can recommend computer software for her :)  I don't think I'd recommend my company, since they're rather expensive for small offices, but maybe they might have something more affordable by the time she gets out.

We're actually going back to Hawaii to see her graduate and we're going to do other cool things like Jet ski and stuff while we're there. Michelle will get to do some mad shopping at her favorite Ala Moana mall.  And I'll get to eat some onolicious grinds.

I've been playing a little bit of tennis, like once every two weeks, cuz I'm in this corporate challenge thing where we compete against other companies in the KC area like Sprint, H&R Block and more in sports events, and then the company with the highest finishes in the most sports gets to be the Corporate challenge winner.  So right now we're playing an internal tennis tournament to see who will represent our company in the final challenge.  I'm in the semi-finals right now, I won my last two matches pretty easily.

Haven't been playing much poker, however I did play 10-20 limit last night and won like 3 C notes.  It just hasn't been that exciting to me.  I was discussing it with my friend Andy and playing those lower limits just isn't fun anymore, especially when you have a salary and income which pays so much more.  I might try playing $5-$10 and seeing if it's still fun.

I'm still playing WOW, I'm in this guild The Dark Souls, which is probably the #2 horde guild on the Tichondrius server.  My level 60 rogue is the top DPSer in our guild and we're primarily a PVE guild, we just downed Princess HuHuran a week ago, and are working on the Twin Emps.

Well I'm starving and need to get a haircut, as michelle is nagging me about my the forest growing on my head.  So I best be taking off.  Be sure to listen in next year for another update on my life.

Peace out,

-Jon

Well I don't have a job this summer between graduation and starting my job in Kansas City, so I'm probably going to work on my poker game a lot.

Saturday, January 01, 2005

Well, I guess it's 2005 so I better make a new post to start off the New Year.  Michelle came to Hawaii with me for our second Christmas together in Hawaii with my family.  We didn't do all the tourist stuff this time around since we did it last time, but she definitely got some good shopping in.

We went to Kona for the weekend and saw the Flight of the Pheonix.  It was pretty good, but not as good as Meet the Fockers, that movie was really funny!  But I got a nice 512 memory USB stick thingy from Michelle, Mike Caro's Book of Poker Tells, and a Duvee cover (spelling?)  I got some clothes from my parents and a little bit of cash from the relatives.

Michelle had to fly back to Seattle for work, even though her boss totally forgot that she had to go to work.  And they lost her baggage, but they ended up finding it a few days later.  Luckily nothing was lost, except for a few hairs she probably pulled out from her head from stressing.

But New years was fun, I set off a few fireworks for Good luck and we had a nice family party with all of our family friends.  I wish Michelle could've spent New Years with us too, but I guess her family should get to see her for some of the trip since she spent Christmas with our family.  Gotta share her :)

As for my New Years resolutions I thought of a few that I would like to try and do this year.

1) Go to church more and do my devotionals and read the Bible more.  I really slacked this year and I really wanna work on this one.

2) Stop slacking on my Master's Thesis.  I slacked last quarter and it just means I'm going to have to pick up the slack this quarter and next.  If I want to graduate I better pick up on this.

3) Attempt to play less PC games.  Damn they're addicting, but I gotta spend my time more constructively.

I think those will be sufficient.  Lots of stuff to work on.  The good news is that since I've taken almost all of my required courses, I might only have to go to class physically 1 day of the week for 1 hour on Tuesday.  My other class with be online and my other course is my Thesis work which I do from home.  But yah, that should be pretty sweet.  Hopefully I can motivate myself to get on it.

Wow, this is more than I thought I would write.  Julie T. told me she's engaged and that's awesome!  Too bad I probably won't be in hawaii when she gets married in July, but I'm sure it'll be a nice wedding.

I'm flying back to Seattle in 2 days and definitely looking forward to seeing my woman!  Luv u and miss u lots mich!  Thats enough writing.  Happy New Year to all of you and may 2005 be even better than 2004.

How long has it been?

Wow, I haven't made a post in so long, I don't know why, maybe it's because I've been busy with other things?  I dunno, maybe it's just not that appealing to me to post anymore.  But anyways, I'm doing it now so be happy :P

First off, gotta send a shoot out to BJ for graduating, even though it only took him a mere 7 years!!! After 3 freshman years, 1 soph, 1 jr, and 2 senior years, our career student has decided to move on to graduate school at UH Manoa.  I must say that Seattle will not be the same without this guy, if you know him you'll know what I mean.

We hada nice graduation party at Setsuko's house for him, and a buncha people showed up.  Here are some pics from the party.

But it was fun, we had a lot of foozeball playing, some mario kart, ono grindz, and just fun seeing all of us together for possibly the last time until VEGAS BABY! Thanksgiving?

Next Topic: Happy Anniversary to Michelle and I!!! it's our 19-month anniversary, damn that's a long time, but it just flew right by (for the most part ;) ) but it's been great and i'm looking forward to even more time together.

Summer plans? I'm going to be interning for the cerner corp, the company I want to work for after graduation, so I probably have to bust ass this summer, contrary to all my beliefs :P  I'm probably heading to Kansas City for 2 days for orientation at Cerner, then i'm back at UWMC working on their new Electronic Medical Record System.

Next I'm probably flying to Cali for a trip with Michelle and her family for a family reunion.  I havent' been there in so long it will be tons of fun.  End of summer we're probably heading off to Hawaii.  We're going to stop in Oahu for a few days and see the sites, go shopping, etc etc.  Then we're off to hilo for R&R and more site seeing.

Then my 2nd year in the BH&I master's program starts and I have to start working on my Master's thesis in order to graduate.

Anyways, I better concentrate on my Partypoker game before I do something stupid and lose money.  Alright that's about it for the updates, I'll post again if theres more.

Oh one more thing, congratulations to my lil brother Mark for graduating High School as well.  Damn time moves fast, I remember he was like 3 yrs old chasing around with his smelly green blanket and now he's graduating highschool.  TOo bad he got sick and couldnt' visit us up in Seattle, I know he would've had fun.

Alright peace

-Jon
